The Air Force needs a new tanker fleet-in fact the Air Force identified the new KC-45 tanker as its number one procurement priority, because the existing Eisenhower-era tanker fleet needs to be replaced. Unfortunately, this critical military asset has been delayed by an egregious pork-barrel earmark scandal, and, if some members of Congress and the chattering classes have their way, could be derailed once again by the closed door earmark process.

WASHINGTON – With the launch of the "Earmarks Don't Fly" advertising campaign, the free-market grassroots group Americans for Prosperity (AFP) today announced a national effort to prevent Congress from passing legislation that would prematurely overturn the outcome of a merit-based tanker procurement decision by the Air Force. If lawmakers interfere, the tanker would become the largest earmark in history and establish a dangerous precedent for national security decisions to be handed out based on political favors as opposed to a competitive bidding process.
