TOPEKA – The free-market grassroots group Americans for Prosperity-Kansas today announced a new way to communicate with its members on tax policy proposals through the Kansas Tax Alert program.
Through the site, Kansas residents will be able to sign up to be notified when a bill is introduced that will result in a tax increase.
AFP-Kansas state director Derrick Sontag said the Kansas Tax Alert program is designed to give Kansans the tools they need to follow what happens under the dome in Topeka.
“Advances in technology and strides in government transparency have made it easier to track what the Legislature is doing every day, but it is difficult for hard-working taxpayers to keep up with what is being proposed in Topeka,” he said. “AFP’s Kansas Tax Alerts will provide notifications when a legislator’s proposal will increase taxes, giving taxpayers better tools to compete with the taxpayer-funded lobbyists and power brokers who typically dominate the attention of lawmakers.”
Aside from the notifications, those who sign up for the tax alerts will have an opportunity to contact their legislator through the online system.
“Kansans who sign up for these alerts will be just a few clicks away from letting their legislators know their thoughts on these tax proposals,” Sontag said. “It’s important that we alert politicians immediately about the consequences of their actions, especially at a time when the Legislature is attempting to balance a budget with an estimated $400 million shortfall and the threat of tax increases is very real.”
