Americans for Prosperity Hosts Watch Parties, Responds to State of the Union Address
Arlington, VA - Last night hundreds of activists gathered at a dozen different State of the Union Watch Parties around the country. Remarks from Americans for Prosperity President Tim Phillips and special guests such as Virginia Governor McDonnell were broadcast live online, and drew a stark contrast between the principles of economic freedom and the big-government policies President Obama would go on to defend.
AFP President Tim Phillips said, "Last night we heard President Obama call for 'No bailouts, no handouts, no cop-outs.' Yet for the past three years, we've seen the Obama Administration double-down on the reckless bank bailouts and handout millions of taxpayer dollars to failing 'green energy' schemes like Solyndra. He has repeatedly allowed his political allies to cop-out, most recently exempting labor unions from his burdensome health care law."
AFP watch parties last night spanned across the US, featuring events from Florida and Virginia to Colorado and Nevada, and many more. Activists played "SOTU Bingo" as the president spoke, and shared their ideas to expand economic freedom in 2012 and beyond.

Phillips continued, "President Obama's record is one of wasteful spending, jobs lost, five trillion in new debt piled up, and cronyism that favors political allies. Even the theme of his speech, 'Built to Last' is borrowed from GE, a company with very close ties to the Obama Administration and recipient of billions in bailout dollars. The American people know empty rhetoric when they hear it, which is why this will probably be Obama's last State of the Union address."
