Americans For Prosperity Launches Media Blitz Against RGGI Cap-And-Trade Scheme

Americans for Prosperity launched a TV and radio campaign on Monday calling for the end of the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) Cap-and-Trade program.

The media blitz will serve to educate citizens who are unaware of the RGGI program, while alerting them to the fact that RGGI will cause their electricity rates to soar and cost our state jobs.

Over the course of the past 8 months, a series of exposes by online investigative website New Jersey Watchdog has revealed that RGGI is failing in its mission to reduce carbon emissions. The ten state cooperative also operates secretly, claiming non-profit status, and has repeatedly refused OPRA (open public records) requests. New Jersey Watchdog has filed an OPRA lawsuit against the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection to try to obtain records pertaining to RGGI. (Link: New Jersey Watchdog)

AFP has actively supported repeal legislation introduced in the Assembly by Alison McHose and Michael Patrick Carroll, and in the Senate by Mike Doherty and Steve Oroho, which is now sponsored by 35 lawmakers.
