Since Massachusetts rejected the health care take over by electing Scott Brown last month, President Obama and Congress temporarily took a hint and started to focus elsewhere. Well now they’re back to health care. In order to garner public support President Obama will hold a bipartisan health care summit this Thursday that is nothing more than a public relations stunt. The President said “What I'd like to do is have a meeting whereby I'm sitting with the Republicans, sitting with the Democrats, sitting with health care experts, and let's just go through these bills... in a methodical way so that the American people can see and compare what makes the most sense."
What the President and other Democrats don’t understand is you can’t have bipartisanship when you come to the table with three bills written by the majority party and say: “by the way, we’re not starting over.” The latest bill is from the White House which was released earlier today. You can read the same old talking points here.
Even more amazing is that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said in a statement that “Senate Democrats join with the president in reaffirming our commitment to seeking a bipartisan solution to health reform."
Glad to hear that. But wait…
Senator Reid said publicly this weekend that he would use the budget reconciliation process, which requires a simple 51 vote majority, to pass a health care bill within sixty days.
Now that Democrats lost their filibuster proof majority they need to give the appearance of bipartisanship before activating the final push through in sixty days or less. There’s no doubt that the White House and Liberals in Congress are resorting to extreme acts of deception to pass this massively unpopular bill. You can see this for yourself in a range of health care polls.
This Thursday AFP will host our own health care summit in Washington, DC. We’ll gather outside the Blair House where the health care summit is being held then hold our own meeting to discuss what you can do to beat the health care takeover. To register or watch from home click here.
