Two weeks ago the Washington Post published an editorial by former Montgomery County Executive (and 2006 gubernatorial candidate) Doug Duncan calling out the leaders in Annapolis for their lack of...well...leadership. To read the op/ed click HERE.
Although AFP Maryland and the always-classy Duncan will not always agree on political issues, I firmly support him on this one. The tax-and-spend crowd in Annapolis, and particularly the O'Malley administration, has shown no real urgency to fix the long-term budgetary problems. While O'Malley has simplified the solution to "two words: Barack Obama" (insert hand gestures here), it has become clear that the stimulus package with all of its attached strings, may have done more to complicate the issue than actually solve it.
The Stimulus package of $3.75 Billion has arrived in Maryland. Whether you agreed with the bailout or not, it is now time we hold the elected officials accountable. County Exec Duncan has sounded the fire alarm to the politicians in the capital, but it will take action from us to make sure the tax-and-spenders don't let the whole house burn down.
