Save Right-To-Work in North Carolina

The U.S. Congress is discussing a bill tomorrow (March 10) that would override the basic tenets of federalism and would force state and local governments to participate in collective bargaining with all public safety personnel.

The “Public Safety Employer-Employee Cooperation Act of 2010” (H.R. 413) is a cynical attempt by public-sector union representatives to force an unfunded mandate on state and local governments while also subjecting all state bargaining laws to review and possible rejection by the Federal Labor Relations Authority (FLRA).

In a time of deep deficits by the state, counties, and cities, North Carolina does not need a law which would force all levels of government to negotiate and pay high-paying union contracts with money that is simply not available. This can only lead to greater debts for our children and more severe budget cuts in the future for services that are actually needed.

Even if you believe that public employees should be able to unionize, this is clearly a decision for the North Carolina legislature and our Governor, NOT Congress.

Take Action. Click here to contact your legislator and tell him or her that it is not the federal government's place to force public employees to bargain collectively.

We’ve seen the result of strong, government-protected public-sector unions in states like California. Approximately 85% of that state’s public workers are unionized. Over the past decade, pension costs for those employees have increased 2,000%, while state revenues have increased a mere 24%. Those numbers are real. The powerful, flush-with-cash unions are bankrupting California. North Carolina could be next.

We must protect North Carolina’s Right-to-Work status. If the federal government can force public employees to bargain collectively, then private employees are certainly next.
We need your help to stop the inevitable increase of public services costs, and the huge increase in bureaucracy and federal power. Send Washington a message and have your voice heard.
