A bill currently floating through Congress, inaptly called the "Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA)," has the ability to forever alter capitalism and democracy as we know it. Commonly referred to as card check, EFCA would effectively eliminate a secret ballot in the workplace and allow all arbitration to be settled by union-friendly bureaucrats. Businesses, small and large, are teetering on the brink of failure due to the recession. Adding this burden would push them over the edge.

Thomas Gies, a scholar at the American Enterprise Insititute, makes the argument that if EFCA passes, the United States will look a lot more like Canada in the near future. Click here to read the article.

Card check is expected to pass in the House of Representatives, but a fight is looming in the Senate. The liberals are just short of the 60 votes needed to stop a filibuster, but we must kill EFCA outright. Please contact both of Maryland's Senators and urge them to vote "NO" on EFCA and "NO" on stopping a filibuster. I have listed their office number below.
