According to the liberal-leaning polling firm Public Policy Polling, Etheridge's district (2nd) opposes the bill 53%.
“North Carolinians in the state's most competitive Congressional districts are strongly opposed to President Obama's and Speaker Pelosi's expensive, unconstitutional, and choice-restricting healthcare bill,” said Woodhouse. “They are well aware of what is in store for them if their representatives vote for this bill: higher taxes, more federal and state debt, the loss of control of their healthcare choices, and the end to the private relationship between them and their doctor.”
And these numbers do not just reflect the strength of Republican voters the 2nd district. Independents are also very strongly opposed to the bill. Sixty-eight percent of independents in Etheridge’s district oppose the bill. And Etheridge has publicly stated his support for the bill, putting him in the position of potentially voting against what the people of his district want.
“These voters are right to be concerned about price and quality, while their representatives and their President are merely concerned with pushing through a bad bill and handing over control of this country's health care system to bureaucrats,” said Woodhouse.
Americans for Prosperity has been educating citizens on the dangers of President Obama's health care reform since last summer with their Hands Off My Health Care events across the state.
