Americans for Prosperity, a free-market grassroots organization at the forefront of today’s most vital issues, announces that earlier this week its membership crossed the 1 million mark.

“The growth we have seen in the last few months has been unreal,” said AFP President Tim Phillips. “Americans are getting involved across the country like never before. They’re excited about taking action to protect their freedoms, and they’re tireless in answering the call.

“AFP gives activists a tremendous opportunity to connect with like-minded neighbors and fight against these threats to their freedoms. Whether it’s a property tax increase in your county or a Washington takeover of health care, your AFP chapter is active on the issues that affect you directly.”

AFP has held thousands of rallies and events since its founding in 2003. Some of its signature events are the Hot Air Tour, which has a 70-foot-tall hot air balloon and seeks to expose the high cost of global warming alarmism; the Save My Ballot Tour, which fights for workers’ right to a secret ballot in union elections; and the Hands Off My Health Care bus tour. The new Regulation Reality Tour launches March 22 to fight EPA global warming regulations.

AFP co-sponsors two national conferences each year with AFP Foundation, in addition to numerous state and regional conferences. The Defending the American Dream™ Summit in the Washington, D.C., area drew more than 2,000 activists in 2009. RightOnline, which trains grassroots members in online activism, is held each year opposite Netroots Nation.
