Property Tax Cap Rally at the State Capitol

OKLAHOMA CITY – Property Tax Cap Rally: Americans for Prosperity held a taxpayer rally at the Oklahoma State Capitol on March 18 to urge legislators to support Senate Joint Resolution 5, a bill which would lower the cap on property taxes from 5% to 3%.

“The current cap on property taxes in Oklahoma is more like an automatic increase than a cap,” said Stuart Jolly, state director of Americans for Prosperity - Oklahoma. Already passed in the State Senate and now heading to the State House, Senate Joint Resolution 5 would provide homeowners much needed property tax relief during these economically difficult times.

“If you’re like me,” said Jolly, “You’ve had to reevaluate your family budget and find ways to cut costs. But it seems that every time I manage to get ahead, the state finds another 'necessary' expense to pull from my paycheck.”

Around 150 concerned citizens gathered in the 4th Floor Rotunda of the State Capitol building to hear from State Senators Jim Reynolds and Debbie Leftwich, Commissioner Brian Maughan, Oklahoma County Assessor Leonard Sullivan, Rep Lewis Moore, Rep David Dank, ex-representative Kevin Calvey, Rep Mike Reynolds, Rep George Faught, and others. It was a day to remember.

The event received TV coverage from the local ABC station. Additionally, the Tulsa Beacon, the Daily Oklahoman, and even the Seattle Times wrote stories on it. Take a look at the photo book below.
