You gotta love the extreme political correctness of Oregon’s struggling newspaper of record, The Oregonian, with their puff piece about the visit of the nutty Canadian zoologist and environmental activist David Suzuki. He spoke at the World Affairs Council yesterday in Portland to declare that it is “un American” to say that radical global warming policies (taxes) will “destroy our economy”.
Now aside from the irony of a Canadian insulting US citizens by telling us what it means to be American, the real story here is The Oregonian’s unapologetic promotion of a foreign citizen who has called for the imprisonment of politicians if they don’t do what is right for the environment. Apparently, The Oregonian's management feels that it is appropriate to promote the extreme political views of an environmental activist while they virtually ignored Czech President Vaclav Klaus’s two day visit to Oregon last year. Never mind that a foreign head of state guarded by the US Secret Service came to Oregon to express the opposing view about global warming policies from the economic perspective, no The Oregonian chose to stay silent, even after the editorial board met with President Klaus.
Not exactly balanced journalism, but sadly what we have come to expect from this paper. By the way, why no dissenting views or actual data on the cooling trend the earth has been in for the last ten years in this story? Wouldn’t a responsible article include opposing thoughts or facts?
Sad also is the fact that neither the Governor nor the Mayor or Portland City Council could be bothered to meet with President Klaus, yet the politically correct Oregonian rolls out the red carpet for a nut who wants to throw elected leaders in jail, reminiscent of Stalinist policy.
Yet they wonder why their circulation continues to drop? Amazing.
