Changing the Nation, One State at a Time
In just a few minutes’ time you can make a difference for transparency, fiscal accountability and quality public education.
Your local Jefferson County school board appoints district administrators to negotiate with union leaders over how employees are paid, teacher and staff working conditions, and various union perks. The JCEA teacher’s union bargaining agreement says “Negotiations shall be conducted in open sessions, unless both parties agree to the contrary.”
But negotiations started in secret without any formal approval from the board. When one board member, Laura Boggs, raised the issue at an April 21 meeting, a motion to close negotiations was blocked with a 2-2 tie vote. Now the district has temporarily suspended negotiations and needs to hear from the taxpayers which way to go.

We all know the importance of government transparency and the power of citizen action. Down in Colorado Springs District 11, citizen action has forced some union negotiations to open up for citizens to observe.
