AFP Issues Letter of Support for Rep. Tiahrt's Review of Government Spending

May 6, 2009

Representative Todd Tiahrt
2441 Rayburn House Office Building
Washington, DC 20515

Dear Rep. Tiahrt,

On behalf of the more than 500,000 members of Americans for Prosperity I am writing to support your bill, H.R. 1802, the Commission on the Accountability and Review of Federal Agencies (CARFA) Act.

There is a dire need for a top-to-bottom examination of federal spending, which your bill would provide. By seeking out duplicative, inefficient, and outdated or failed programs, the cleanup effort would be a nice breath of fresh air for taxpayers all over the country.

Fiscal accountability and responsibility have unfortunately become an afterthought in the 111th United States Congress and your bill could set us back on the right track. By applying the resulting savings from your commission’s recommendation toward deficit reduction, your bill would ensure that savings go to reducing the size and intrusiveness of government, not funding other programs.

We therefore happily endorse H.R. 1802 and urge your colleagues to cosponsor this legislation and enact it into law.

Sincerely,

Tim Phillips
President
