Americans for Prosperity-North Carolina to Protest $1 Billion Tax Increase at “Take Back Our State” Tea Party, June 3rd

Hundreds will gather in Raleigh to tell Governor Perdue “No new taxes!”

RALEIGH- Americans for Prosperity-North Carolina will host a “Take Back Our State” Tea Party with Mary Katharine Ham of FOX News and Joe “The Plumber” Wurzelbachr to protest the proposed $1 billion increase in state taxes currently under consideration by the North Carolina General Assembly.

“I’ve seen some large tax increases in North Carolina, but this latest tax proposal is an unprecedented increase in the state’s history,” said State Director Dallas Woodhouse. “Our legislators need to know that citizens are taxed enough already and will not stand for a $1 billion tax increase.”

The event is aimed at exposing the attempts by both Governor Perdue and the State Senate to increase taxes on everything from automotive repairs to downloading music. Other activities under serious consideration for dramatically increased taxation include digital properties, warranties, alcohol, cigarettes, as well as tangible personal property services such as plumbing repairs.
Grassroots activists will speak about the hardship these new taxes will put on their family budgets. AFP Onslow County chapter coordinator, Bobby Snow, will speak about how a new tax on auto repair labor will be a hardship on him and his customers.

"People even now cannot afford to buy news cars. They can barley afford to repair them and keep them running,” said Snow. “This new service tax will mean some people will have to choose fixing their car and paying the new taxes rather than feeding their families.”

AFP-NC is chartering a bus for activists from all across the state to attend the rally, picking up from Asheville, Charlotte, Goldsboro, Greensboro, Jacksonville, New Bern, Pinehurst, Sanford, Statesville, Wilmington, and Winston-Salem.

Special guest speakers Mary Katharine Ham of FOX News and Joe “The Plumber” Wurzelbachr will speak at the rally and stand with taxpayers in opposition to this proposal. Wurzelbachr will speak specifically about the proposed tax on services which could include home repairs such as plumbing services.
