School Districts Continue to Sue Taxpayers - Responsible for $5M in Classroom Funds being Spent in Courtroom

As this AP Story indicates, the abuse of the taxpayers and the tax money intended for our children's classroom continues.

After their resounding loss on all counts in circuit court, a number of school districts continue their assault on the taxpayers of the state in appealing that loss. Perhaps we could understand their continued abuse of classroom funds in the courtroom if the original decision had left doubt about the outcome of the original case. It didn't.

It was interesting to find when we did the first effort on this issue after the schools lost the circuit court case that many board members weren't even aware of what they had agreed to do in joining the case. One board president even told me they were told the district was being sued. Until we talked, he wasn't aware that they in fact were the plantiffs, not the defendants! It was yet another demonstration of what I had seen as an elected official. The boards had not been given the complete story by their hired help, the superintendent.

Attached is a list of the top 10 taxpayer abusers in the state. If you are a patron of any of these districts, you should let them know that you are paying taxes for education, not lawyers.

Be forewarned they are likely to give you such platitudes as "we are just making sure we get our fair share". It's not true. The only way they can get more dollars is to have it taken from you by the state! And, if you are in one of these top 10, there is a fair chance that your district might actually lose in a redistribution scheme.

Higher taxes on all, reduced state services or redistribution of existing local funds are the only way to come up with the money the school districts are suing you the taxpayer for. There is significant doubt that the money currently being collected is used wisely.

You don't have to look any furher than the fact that taxes collected for education should be spent in the classroom not the courtroom.
