The National Motorists Association ranked Maryland one of the worst states to travel through based on their recent annual report.

To Free State travelers, this comes as no surprise. Speed traps, speed cameras and kangaroo traffic courts are listed as critera that were used to generate the state by state rankings - all of which occur within the state of Maryland.

After Comptroller Franchot reported last week that the state is taking in much less money than it was in the previous fiscal year, there is a need for alternate "revenue" sources. With the recent passage of a statewide speed camera law, the state wants more ways to put money into the general fund...this time in the name of "safety". While AFP-Maryland takes no issue with reasonable enforcement of reckless driving, we have a serious problem with raising money on the backs of Maryland motorists. During a recession, the last thing the government should be doing is discouraging families from taking vacations by bullying them on the road.
