Invest in our efforts to defeat the Brewer Tax Hike

AFP-Arizona is now mounting a counter-effort to stop Brewer’s tax-hike plan from being included in the budget proposals over the next few weeks. Our plan includes:

1) Running targeted radio ads and television spots in the districts of fence-sitting legislators, urging the fence-sitters not to go along with the tax hike proposal. Cost = $30,000

2) Mobilizing citizens in legislative districts with a mass mailing of 15,000 educational postcards, urging them to take action against the tax hike. Cost = $10,000

3) Bringing top economic experts to a Capitol news conference to help convince wavering leaders, and bolster the fiscal conservatives who are fighting the good fight in the Legislature. Cost = $5,000

The total budget for this effort right now would be $45,000. That’s one-fifth of the $225,000 that the tax hikers are planning to spend on their campaign. We don’t have to spend nearly as much, because we have a better message. But we have to get that message out.

The e-mail you received today went out to 2,000 of our most motivated AFP-Arizona activists. If each of you contributes $25 TODAY, we can begin our counter-offensive later this week, and fight off the Brewer tax increase plan.

If the Brewer tax hike plan gets to the ballot, we will have to fight it in a special election. That will be a much more expensive battle—remember, the tax-takers and special interests are willing to spend millions of dollars on advertisements, because if they win, they will get BILLIONS of dollars in new taxes. It would be much cheaper to beat them now.
