Upcoming Chapter Meetings and Events

AFP-Kansas State Director Derrick Sontag, and Western Kansas Field Director Susan Estes will conduct a two-day visit to southwest Kansas on June 8 and 9. The Wichita Area Chapter will continue viewing Milton Friedman’s “Free to Choose” series at 11:30 a.m. at Mike’s Steakhouse (2131 S. Broadway St.) on the following dates: June 10, June 24, July 8, July 22, Aug. 5, Aug. 19, Sept. 2, Sept. 16. The only cost is the price of your meal.

The Topeka Area Chapter will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 16 at the Topeka Shawnee-County Public Library. The meeting will feature Friedman’s “Free to Choose” series, Vol. 1.

The Kansas Attorney General’s Office will conduct training on Kansas Open Meetings/Open Records June 23-26 in Dodge City, Olathe, Topeka and Wichita. Plans are underway for a July 4th Tea Party in Wichita – we will celebrate our freedoms and Constitutional rights at 8:30 a.m. outside the Sedgwick County Courthouse on July 4. We have also learned of other tea parties in the following locations, which are not sponsored by AFP but we'd like to get the word out:

  • June 13th at the Boone County Fairgrounds in Columbia, Mo. This is the Midwest FairTax Rally and Tea Party, hosted by various FairTax organizations. Learn more at www.midwestrally.com.

  • July 4th Tea party at 10 a.m. at Two Trails Park on North Ridgeview in Olathe.

Local Government 101 is an interactive presentation of the inner workings of a local government meeting. You will learn how to: decipher city agendas, prepare for a meeting, foster constructive relationships with elected officials, and effectively influence public policy.

  • Part I will be at 7 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. Monday, July 6, at the Wichita AFP office. We will examine a typical Wichita City Council Agenda in conjunction with a video recording of an actual meeting.

  • Part II’s session will be from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Tuesday, July 7. It will begin at Wichita Hall to observe a city council meeting, followed by a debriefing.
