Sunset Caucus Committed to Restraining Spending

Today in front of the Capitol, members of the Republican Study Committee announced the creation of the Sunset Caucus. The caucus is populated by members who are committed to working diligently to cut wasteful, failing and duplicative programs from the federal budget.

The Sunset Caucus is headed by co-chairs Congressman Kevin Brady (R-TX) and Congressman Jason Chaffetz (R-UT). Each new member of the caucus will be tasked with identifying a wasteful program and making it their mission to see that it is eliminated. President Obama has said that he is interested in trimming unnecessary programs from the budget; it looks like the Sunset Caucus is going to show him how.

From the Republican Study Committee’s website, Chairman Tom Price said:

Today, the Republican Study Committee is taking another step to protect American taxpayers. What began with a balanced budget proposal now extends to responsibly reining in the overgrowth in Washington that is threatening every American taxpayer. The sheer enormity of the federal government has resulted in many programs that are redundant, wasteful, ineffective, or past their expiration date. If left unchallenged, they will continue to leech away taxpayer dollars forever. Thanks to the RSC Sunset Caucus, Americans are represented in Congress by a group specifically dedicated to eliminating government waste.

Americans for Prosperity is happy to see Members of Congress standing up to big government and wasteful spending. There is no way we can get our economy back on track while we continue to fund these types of programs. We look forward to seeing what the Sunset Caucus has in store.
