AUSTIN – U.S. Senator John Cornyn will headline the “Take Back America” Tea Party which takes place July 4 at the Texas State Capitol.

Cornyn announced Thursday that he will join other national, local and grassroots leaders in taking a stand against wasteful spending and unprecedented government growth in Washington, D.C. at the Austin rally. Other speakers include Congressman Louie Gohmert, State Rep. Wayne Christian, AFP-Texas Director Peggy Venable, Iraq War veteran Kelly Hoag, Don Crawford from the Eagle and Child Radio Show, and a host of other patriots from various walks of life. Stephen Kerr, program director for Talk Radio 1370 AM will emcee the event.

The theme of the rally is “Take Back America,” and will encourage the so-called “silent” majority to use their voices and send a message to Washington, D.C. to cut spending, cut taxes, shrink the size of government and re-read the Constitution.

“Sen. Cornyn is a strong conservative voice in Washington, D.C. and we appreciate the leadership he’s shown in fighting the agenda of his tax-and-spend colleagues in the Senate,” said Peggy Venable, AFP-Texas director. “We encourage everyone in Central Texas who cares about the direction this country is headed and wants to make a difference to come to the Take Back America Tea Party on July 4.”

The Tea Party is a family event and will include inspiring speeches, patriotic music and information for individuals who want to learn how to make a difference in the future prosperity of this country.

The Tea Party is part of a nationwide grassroots movement made up of Americans of all stripes who are fed up with the unprecedented spending and expansion of the federal government. Americans for Prosperity is the main sponsor of the July 4 Tea Party in Austin and also co-sponsored the April 15 “Don’t Mess with Texas” Tea Party that drew more than 2,000 people.
