AUSTIN, TX - Candidate for State Rep District 50 Pat McGuinness today signed the Taxpayer Protection Pledges promoted by Americans for Prosperity-Texas.

“On behalf of the over 33,000 members of Americans for Prosperity-Texas, we commend Patrick McGuinness for demonstrating his support for fiscal discipline, responsible budgeting, and a government accountability,” said AFP-Texas director Peggy Venable.

“Across the nation, advocates of responsible government have embraced the concept that government should grow only proportionate to the growth in population and the increase in inflation. Any growth beyond that should be with taxpayer approval. .

“We in Texas have much to be proud of, and Texas is currently the beacon of fiscal responsibility in the country.

“In our pledge, elected officials and candidates agree to give taxpayers greater control over how much government we want and are willing to pay for. These officials understand that every dollar government spends is a dollar that taxpayers cannot spend as he or she wishes, and taxes limit freedom.

“Officials need merely make the case to taxpayers for higher spending and allow the taxpayer to make the decision.

“By signing AFP's Defending the American Dream Pledge, Patrick McGuinness demonstrates support responsible government, fiscal discipline, and a shared belief that the most important decisions about our state's future should be decided by the citizens themselves,” said Venable.

Patrick McGuinness also signed the pledge to end the practice of forcing taxpayers to support lobby efforts, many of which are in direct conflict to taxpayer interests.

“Citizens should not worry that while they are working hard to earn a living, take care of their families and pay their taxes, that some of those tax dolalrs are going to pay lobbyists who may lobby for higher taxes,” said Venable.
