Card Check Provision Pulled from EFCA, AFP Says Binding Arbitration Still a Threat
WASHINGTON- The New York Times reported today that a handful of Democrat Senators pulled the 'card-check' provision of the Employee Free Choice Act to more easily mobilize support from workers.
Americans for Prosperity President Tim Phillips released the following statement:
"The news that card check has been pulled from the Democrats' union-giveaway bill is a great victory for workers. Unfortunately, so-called labor reforms that allow unions to force people to join against their will remain a major threat. Even without card check, provisions for quickie elections and forced arbitration will allow unions to gain a stranglehold on American workplaces and impose uneconomic demands that will deal a huge blow to our already struggling economy. This is a day to celebrate the death of "card check" but not to let up for one minute in the fight to fully protect worker rights and the principles of voluntary association and contract law that are crucial to our free economy and our prosperity."
