The Coming Revolution

The new Rasmussen poll showing that 57 percent of American voters are willing to radically throw out the entire Congress foreshadows what is about to happen in Oregon. At first blush, this concept seems extreme and to political observers, not likely to happen as 92 percent of all incumbents get re-elected at all levels of government in America.

However, a particular segment of the voters surveyed presents an ominous warning to both of the major parties. Namely, the independent (unaffiliated) voters.

70 percent of those Independents are willing to throw out the entire Congress, with Republicans close behind at 69 percent.

Clearly the Republican numbers demonstrate how out of touch Republicans in Congress are with their own party members back home and that will have significant impact on local races, right on up to Congress. It is an opportunity for new Republican candidates to articulate ideas that the base will accept and will likely lead to large turnover in the primaries, at all levels of government. As a conservative who believes in term limits, I believe this is a good thing as new ideas and energy come into the process to replace complacency and "party over principle" attitudes.

The real danger to both parties here is that the largest voting block in America (independents) now favors throwing out the entire Congress by 70 percent, which coupled with the Republican party’s disaffected voters, points to peaceful revolution, the likes of which this nation has never seen.

For this revolution to be real, it will need a visionary, charismatic leader, (who has yet to emerge in my opinion) who can articulate values and principles that will capture the mood of an electorate that is demanding that their elected leaders listen to them. Without such a leader, the revolution will fizzle and America will slink back into the same old, same old.

Water runs downhill friends, and understand that the national mood is the same mood where you live and the coming revolution will impact your local government elections.

Will you be part of the revolution?
