Changing the Nation, One State at a Time
Americans for Prosperity-Nebraska has begun airing television and radio ads across the state that make two requests of Senator Ben Nelson while the nation debates health care.
The ad can be seen here:
First, the more than fifteen thousand members of AFP-Nebraska want Senator Nelson to oppose any plan that will increase the size and scope of government.
Second, when Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s office states they will pass a health care plan “through any legislative means necessary,” Senator Nelson’s vote will be crucial when opponents to a government plan attempt to filibuster the proposal. AFP-Nebraska is urging Senator Nelson to vote for the filibuster and against cloture, legislative tactic Democratic leaders are sure to use to end debate and ram the bill through Congress, as they promised.
The proposed government plan, according to the Congressional Budget Office, will only increase the actual cost of health care. The plan will also increase our nation’s debate substantially. These are valid reasons to oppose a massive increase in the size and role of government.
The ads request Senator Nelson to support real reform that will put patients first. AFP-Nebraska has been working with physicians, elected officials, small-business owners, and our members across the state to support real reforms, such as Health Savings Accounts, tort reform, promoting competition by allowing individuals to purchase health insurance coverage across state lines and by allowing safe generic drugs from safe countries like Canada to be sold in the United States. There are numerous ways to lower the cost of health care without first resorting to the government option.
