Jacksonville Kinston and Goldsboro -- PRELIMINARY SUMMIT AGENDA and Trip Itinerary

Dear Friend of Prosperity,

We are only days away from the 2009 Americans for Prosperity Foundation’s Defending the American Dream Summit! The North Carolina team is so excited to have you joining us.

Last year, more than 2,500 activists, including 200+ from North Carolina, descended on Washington, demonstrating to elected officials, government bureaucrats and the national media that there exists a real and powerful grassroots movement focused on reining in out of control spending and taxation, advancing sound free market public policy, and in a very real way, defending the American Dream.

This year, the North Carolina delegation is going to be even bigger and the need for conservative solutions in Washington is twice as great. With your help and participation, we’re going to keep the pressure on, and build on this success.

Attached is a packet of information that includes a preliminary schedule, directions to your chosen departure point, and traveling tips. If you need any additional information, please call (919-839-1011) or call Jonathan Bandy (919-452-4916) or Chris Marie Farr (919-218-5071).

I look forward to seeing you at the Summit this year and I know you will have a great time!

Thanks again for joining us in the fight for PROSPERITY!

Best regards,

Dallas H. Woodhouse

State Director

Riding the Bus

We will leave at 5:30 am from the Carter Bank and Trust in Southern Pines and 6:10 am from Food Lion in Sanford. Please leave early to catch the bus Friday morning allowing time for rush hour traffic, road construction, and getting lost.

Our charter buses have bathrooms. We will be stopping for lunch before we arrive in Washington, DC. Please eat breakfast in the morning and please feel free to bring snacks for the bus ride.

Important Tips

The Itinerary basically lets you know what schedule the bus will try to follow. As everyone is an adult on this trip, you are certainly not bound to the bus itinerary.

The Metro’s Blue and Yellow Line Crystal City stop 1-2 blocks from the hotel. We are only a few miles from either Georgetown or DC by taxi.

If you do not plan to ride the bus to the events (which is discouraged) please let your Bus Captain know so that you are not mistakenly left behind or we do not wait for you to show up. There will be a master list of each attendee to make sure everyone gets on the bus unless notified. Keep those cell numbers handy!!!

The Metro’s Blue and Yellow Line Crystal City stop 1-2 blocks from the hotel. We are only a few miles from either Georgetown or DC by taxi.

Every time the bus is loaded a list of those on that bus will be called so that you are not mistakenly left behind. Keep those cell numbers handy of AFP Staff!!!

Attire

Friday Morning: Casual/Business Casual

Friday Evening: Business Attire

Saturday: Business Casual

What to Tote

I would highly recommend carrying some type of tote bag in Washington, D.C. You may keep the Itinerary, Summit materials, camera, water, umbrella, medicine, etc. and anything else that you may need for an entire day away from your luggage. You may also want to bring a light jacket or sweater in case the temperature in the hotel is cool.

Hotel Information

Because of the large number of North Carolinians coming to the Dream Summit, we have had to secure rooms in comparable hotels near the Marriott Crystal Gateway. The buses will take you to the correct hotel and shuttle to the Summit.

How Much Money Will I Need?

You will need to be prepared to pay for 2 meals (low cost); lunch (food court) on Friday and dinner (food court) on Saturday. Some of you may need money for the DC Metro or taxis if you choose to venture out Friday night or do not plan to stay with the bus.

Seating at the Summit

When you arrive at the General Session on Saturday morning, look for the North Carolina section.
We recommend you grab a seat early.

Photographs

Please bring cameras, digital recorders, etc. to the summit. We would appreciate it if you share those with us after the summit, especially those of NC activists.
