On Energy: Reclaiming America's Brightest Minds ~By Jennifer Stefano

In Pennsylvania, we gave birth to a nation, built it with our steel and powered it with our resources. Today, the Keystone State is set to lead the nation once again.

When most people hear “energy” and “Pennsylvania,” they immediately think of the mighty Marcellus Shale and with good reason. The shale spans more than 95,000 square miles, most of it in Pennsylvania and most of it untapped. This natural gas can provide America with a low-cost, clean and abundant source of fuel. But, as much potential as the shale holds, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is rich in more than natural gas alone.

it was here, in Pennsylvania, after all, where American oil was first discovered by Colonel Edwin Drake in the northwestern part of the state. That discovery in 1859 continues to fuel America today. It’s estimated that Pennsylvania has a crude oil reserve of approximately 10 million barrels.

And, of course, Pennsylvania is abundant in coal. Although this abundant mineral gets a bad rap, it was here in Pennsylvania where clean coal technologies were innovated. Thanks in big part to Pennsylvania, coal is the second biggest source of energy in the United States. In fact, thanks to , our nation has enjoyed reasonable energy costs that have allowed us to prosper and innovate--until now, that is. Now, all we have enjoyed is at risk.

Thanks in large part to Pennsylvania, our nation has enjoyed relatively low energy costs that have allowed us to prosper and innovate. But all that is at risk. Under the guise of “green” and “clean” the Obama administration is taxing and regulating our energy industry out of business. The President has publicly stated he wants to see our energy prices go even higher. All this is being done under the guise of protecting the environment, however, something more insidious is happening.

If Obama's excessive taxation and regulation is allowed to continue, not only will it drive up the price of energy, but average Americans will no longer be able to afford even the most basic necessities. Everything will become more expensive and the standard of living we have come to enjoy will become a thing of the past.

That’s why Americans for Prosperity, Pennsylvania, is getting on a bus. We have a message and a mission so critical, that we're taking it on the road. We're headed to where the Obama Administration and other environmentalist radicals have brainwashed a generation of bright minds. We're heading to college campuses all across the state to reclaim America's students from years of radical environmental brainwashing. Unfounded conclusions, scare tactics, bad science and down right lies have been used to convince students that the oil, coal and natural gas industries are bad, while taxation and hyper-regulation is just what the doctor ordered. We're on a mission to liberate students and professors alike from that mind set.

From now on, we're fighting back. We’re going to break barriers, challenge faulty assumptions and encourage college students to question authority. We’ll put to rest anti-free market scare tactics, and reaffirm the reality that Pennsylvania can develop resources, create jobs and protect the environment--all at the same time.
