Appearing on CBS' Face The Nation, Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-CT) reiterated his opposition to any health care reform that has the government mandated "public option." He also went as far to say that doing nothing would be better than another government run insurance giveaway. Lieberman's statements are a blow to Senate liberals pushing this bill forward.
With the House set to vote on government run health care this week, the pressure is now on moderates like Lieberman. If his opinion is any indication of where the political center of the country resides, the government run insurance portion may be "dead on arrival." Speaker Pelosi is taking a huge risk, and may be leaving many of her Blue Dogs out to dry if the Senate does not take up the "public option."
Keep in mind, the votes are not currently there in either chamber. AFP-Maryland encourages all of our members to contact their representative before the Friday vote. If you need the phone number of your Congressional office, CLICK HERE.
