Senate Poised to Adopt Health Care Trainwreck

Apparently no Democrat was moved by the revelation of CBO's double-counting scandal, even though it undermines many of the claims made in the floor debate.

The last cloture vote passed 60-39, straight party line, with only Jim Bunning missing the vote.

Only 7 Democrats -- Bayh (IN), Feingold (WI), McCaskill (MO), Merkley (OR), Nelson (NE), Warner (VA), Webb (VA) -- voted for the DeMint motion to ban earmarks to buy votes, but they voted for the bill anyway.

5 Democrats -- Bayh (IN), Nelson (NE), Shaheen (NH), Warner (VA), Webb (VA) -- agreed the bill breaks budget rules, but they voted for it anyway.

3 Democrats -- Bayh (IN), McCaskill (MO), Bennet (CO) -- agreed that Reid should be required to disclose the earmarks in health bill, but they voted for it anyway.

The final passage vote (only need 50 but they'll have all 60 unless some leave town for Christmas tonight) is set for 7AM tomorrow and will pass.

But take heart. House Democrats hate this bill and there will be some fireworks.

Note for instance this from House Rules Committee Chair (a very powerful position) Louise Slaughter: "The Senate has ended up with a bill that isn't worthy of its support."
