Internet Regulation: House Vote
On July 31, 2009 Reps. Ed Markey (D-Mass.) and Anna Eshoo (D-Calif.) introduced H.R. 3458, legislation that would impose onerous so-called nondiscrimination regulations on both the public Internet and private computer networks. The legislation was written in close cooperation with the group Free Press, which posted the bill on its web site before it was publicly released. Free Press was founded by avowed Marxist Robert McChesney, who has said:
“At the moment, the battle over network neutrality is not to completely eliminate the telephone and cable companies. We are not at that point yet. But the ultimate goal is to get rid of the media capitalists in the phone and cable companies and to divest them from control.”
The bill attracted only 27 co-sponsors and has gained no momentum in the House.
