Adam Guillette was raised to believe in limited government. When other parents were telling their children stories of Hansel and Gretel, Adam’s father would tell him stories about the great achievements of Reagan and Churchill.
Originally from central New Jersey, Adam moved to Gainesville, Florida in 1999 to attend the University of Florida. While at UF, Adam served as the chairman of the College Republicans, as well as their conservative group, the Freedom Foundation.
In his first year at the University, Adam helped found a political action committee known as the Liberty Project. In less than a year, the Liberty Project ran two right-wing candidates for city commission, fought an overbearing city commission pay raise, and registered 4,000 voters in 4 weeks, a record for Alachua County.
At the age of 19, Adam ran for Mayor of the City of Gainesville. Though he finished in 3rd place in a field of 6 candidates, he helped defeat the liberal incumbent and helped move Gainesville local politics to the right.
In 2000 he worked on a congressional race for Mike Rogers of Michigan. The Wall Street Journal called the Mike Rogers race the “most hotly contested race in the country.” Congressman Rogers won by less than 100 votes in a recount.
Later, Adam helped found and became the publisher for The Gator Standard, a conservative publication that became the largest student-owned newspaper in the country.
In 2003 Adam began a campaign to place American flags in the classrooms at the University of Florida. The next year he helped spread this campaign to the University of Central Florida. During this time, a State Senator took note of the idea and helped pass a state law placing American flags in each of Florida’s public school classrooms. Rather than using tax dollars, the legislation required university president’s to raise the money through private contributions.
Two years later Adam was appointed to the position of Dean of Faculty for the Leadership Institute. In this capacity he has traveled around the country to help identify and train free-market activists.
Adam Guillette has been featured in the New York Times, National Review magazine and the Alan Colmes radio show. He currently lives in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida and is proud to serve as the State Director for Americans for Prosperity.
