Changing the Nation, One State at a Time
Hello from the 2008 International Conference on Global Climate Change in New York. This two day event, sponsored by The Heartland Institute and cosponsored by Americans for Prosperity, has drawn over 400 attendees from across the United States and around the world, with over 100 speakers and panelists addressing the climatology, impacts, economics, and politics of climate change.
The resounding message of this conference is clear: the free market works! Local, state, and national governments are hastily moving forth with radical regulatory “solutions” to climate change, the effects of which would be devastating to economic productivity and competitiveness, and would stand in the way of the innovation that can ultimately lead to more efficient technological solutions.
During this conference, leading scientific experts have cast doubt on the prevailing thinking that has been advanced by Al Gore, Hollywood liberals, and the mainstream media. These experts may not have the same star power, but they certainly have the scientific credentials to support their conclusions. The truth of the matter is that no scientific consensus exists on climate change.
Citizens across America must take action against the regulatory and policy threats that are predicated on conjecture and questionable science. If left unchecked, these efforts will place an unbearable burden on taxpayers and have a devastating impact on our economy.
Stay tuned for more detailed analysis of the conference, and check out the blogs of our AFP State Directors who are covering the event. Not all of them have been able to post from here, but stay tuned as they return home:
