AFP-Florida in the News - St. Johns County Tax Hike

St. Johns County Commissioner Ron Sanchez and Adam Guilette, state director for the nonpartisan Americans for Prosperity, will debate a sales-tax increase that will be decided next week by county voters.

The 1-cent sales-tax increase would be in place for five years and used to pay for transportation improvements and to acquire land for conservation and preservation. It would raise an estimated $120 million over its life.

The Washington-based Americans for Prosperity is a nonpartisan political advocacy group. Its state headquarters is in Ponte Vedra Beach.

WOKV radio reporter Jared Halpern will moderate the debate, which will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday at Days Inn at 1300 N. Ponce De Leon Blvd.
