St. Johns County voters will vote on a sales tax increase on November 4th but one group is against it even being on the ballot.
It's a local option one-cent sales tax increase from 6 to 7 percent.
"Proceeds if approved would be used for transportation, congestion relief in the existing development area and conservation acquisition and things to protect water quality," says County Commissioner Cyndi Stevenson.
Stevenson says she realizes times are hard for people, so this is coming at the wrong time.
Adam Guilette with Americans for Prosperity says that's just one reason it should not be on the ballot.
"If they spend money buying up more property that will narrow the property tax base and give the politicians an excuse to raise your property taxes," says Guilette.
Guilette also says the county did not advertise that this would be on the ballot and Stevenson says she and two other commissioners did not vote to advertise it.
