LANSING – The Michigan chapter of Americans for Prosperity (AFP-MI), a grassroots free-market organization, is circulating a questionnaire to candidates running for State House. The group will be compiling a comprehensive guidebook to educate its more than 10,000 members on candidates’ positions. The questionnaire will cover issues including: the appropriate size and scope of government, taxes on businesses, transparency in government, Right to Work laws, regulations that would increase the price of energy, and property assessments.

“Citizens deserve to know where candidates stand on these critical issues,” said Scott Hagerstrom, AFP-MI State Director. “This is a pivotal election. Michigan is grappling with serious economic issues and candidates should be very clear about their intentions.”

AFP-MI is also asking candidates to sign their No Climate Tax Pledge. The group believes that regardless of which approach to the climate issue candidates support, they should be able to agree that climate policies should not be used as a guise to impose massive new taxes on citizens and contribute to the unrestrained growth of government.

“We are asking candidates to pledge that any new revenues generated by a climate tax, cap-and-trade, or regulatory program, should be used dollar-for-dollar to cut taxes,” Hagerstrom concluded.
