  Americans For Prosperity Lauds Attorney General Candidate’s Endorsement of Transparency Code  

CLEVELAND - Americans for Prosperity (AFP), the nation’s premier grassroots organization congratulates Ohio attorney general candidate, Mike Crites, today for his endorsement of the AFP backed Attorney General Transparency Code.

 “After Ohio’s former attorney general resigned in disgrace earlier this year, the need for transparency in that office was made painfully clear,” said Jack Boyle, Ohio director of Americans for Prosperity. “By endorsing the Transparency Code, Mike Crites has shown his commitment to cleaning up and restoring the public’s confidence to the office of Attorney General.” 

Developed by the American Tort Reform Association, the Attorney General Transparency Code is just one of the many 2008 policy goals for AFP-Ohio to bring transparency and accountability to state government.

“The office of Attorney General has unique powers to affect the economic, business, and ethical climate in the state.  With its ability to dictate investigation and prosecution and its ability to hire outside counsel to perform legal business for the state, the AG has power to reward friends and supporters, as well as punish adversaries which rival or exceed that of any other state official,” said Boyle.  A formal commitment to transparency in the operation of the AG’s office will ensure that promotion of the state’s interests is behind AG decisions, not the AG’s personal or political interests,” said Boyle.

With Crites’ endorsement of the AG Transparency code, two of the three AG candidates on this November’s ballot have endorsed the code.
