OKLAHOMA CITY – The free-market grassroots group Americans for Prosperity Foundation-Oklahoma (AFPF-OK) will offer members of the media an opportunity for insight into the 2008 agenda and release a new book of economic data in advance of a town hall scheduled with Congressman John Sullivan. AFPF’s initiatives include educating citizens on the lack of transparency to taxpayer-funded lobbying, property tax loophole for developers, and benefits a system of school choice would bring for Oklahoma’s children.
AFPF-OK has set its goal to reach thousands more citizen activists in 2007, and with the legislative success seen this year, the grassroots group is on track to meet that goal. In May, AFPF-OK’s members celebrated the signing of a tax relief package that reduces the state’s top marginal income tax rate to 5.25 percent earlier than planned, eliminates the franchise tax for most small businesses, provides a “back to school” sales tax holiday, and creates a tax credit for stay-at-home parents similar to the credit offered to parents with children in daycare.
The following month, the citizen group's effort to bring more accountability and openness to government by creating a searchable “Google-Government” website with annual budgets of all state agencies was realized through a new law. In October, more than 60 Oklahoma residents flew to Washington, DC demanding reform on spending, taxes, and transparency issues as part of the Americans for Prosperity Foundation’s Defending the American Dream Summit.
