JANESVILLE – Representative Paul Ryan will speak on Tuesday, May 27 about his new bill that seeks to aggressively reform Social Security, Medicare, the health care system and the tax code. Ryan’s bill, which was introduced on Wednesday, would provide tax credits for families to buy health insurance, establish Medicare payments to pay for private insurance, allow workers younger than 55 to invest up to a third of their Social Security taxes into personal retirement accounts, and give taxpayers a choice between using the current income tax code or using a simplified tax system.
Who: Paul Ryan, ranking member of House Budget Committee
What: Public address to outline his plan for Social Security, Medicare, Health Care, and tax code reform in his new bill introduced on Wednesday.
When: Tuesday, May 27, 4:15pm – 5:30pm
Where: Janesville City Hall, Council Chambers, Room 417, 18N. Jackson Street
“We are really excited about Representative Ryan’s new plan for health care reform,” said AFP Wisconsin State Director Mark Block. “This bill is about getting back to common sense and fiscal responsibility. If Social Security and health care continue as they are today, we will bankrupt this country for our children. Rep. Ryan’s plan seeks to correct the misguided direction that our government officials have started us down.”
Rep. Ryan is the ranking member on the House Budget Committee. He serves on the House Ways and Means Committee as well as its Subcommittee on Social Security. He also serves as a member on the U.S. Congress Joint Economic Committee. Rep Ryan was elected in 1998 and serves the first district of Wisconsin. Before being elected to Congress he worked as an aide to U.S. Senator Bob Kasten, and as legislative director for Sam Brownback. He also served as a speech writer to Jack Kemp and William Bennett.
