Arizona delegation report to the AFP Summit

Here is our Arizona delegation report to AFP at the Summit, on Saturday, October 11, 2008:

Greetings from the Grand Canyon state, where Governor Janet Napolitano has created one of the biggest canyons in the entire country—a nearly three-billion dollar budget deficit!

Even though we are deep in the budget deficit canyon, the Governor wants to keep digging deeper--with more spending, and with taxes that will hurt economic growth.

One of her plans this year was to have the state Legislature refer a new state sales tax to the November ballot. But thanks in part to your Arizona chapter of Americans for Prosperity, she could not get a large enough majority in the Legislature to do that.

So, the Guv and her corporate welfare friends had to go around at the last minute and collect signatures for a ballot initiative. We are grateful to say it was too little, too late, and her initiative failed to get on the ballot.

And, speaking of the ballot, our activists are working to promote the Freedom of Choice in Health Care Act, a measure that would prevent the government from instituting a Canadian-style single-payer government monopoly health care system.

That’s good news from the Grand Canyon state. Stay tuned for more news next year.
