This week the U.S. House of Representatives will vote on a measure to stop the Obama White House’s plan to greatly expand the government’s control over the Internet.
H.J. Res. 37 will stop the largest expansion of government power over the private sector development of broadband since the birth of the Internet.
Tell your Member of Congress to vote YES to stop the FCC’s power grab.
READ MOREFree Press, an ironically-named group that pushes for government regulation of the Internet, started the year by attacking a fledgling service launched by cable and direct-broadcast satellite providers. The new service, called TV Everywhere, allows cable and satellite subscribers to watch programming online at no additional cost. Sounds like a nice service that will encourage more online video content. So why the call for regulation?
READ MOREThe Louisiana State House of Representatives has taken the first step toward instituting a state Internet tax. House Bill 569, introduced by Rep. Mack “Bodi” White (R-Denham Springs), would exact a 15-cent per month tax on all consumers in the state that access the Internet. The money would then be funneled into a pot for Attorney General Buddy Caldwell to fight Internet crime, chiefly, pursuing child predators; this is a laudable goal. However, the proposed funding mechanism presents serious problems.
