Bus's Arrive in Janesville to Support Congressman Ryan

Congressman Held Listening Session to Talk about New Bill, Energy Independence; AFP Shows Their Support

JANESVILLE – The cold and wind didn’t stop a bus load of people from attending Congressman Paul Ryan’s listening session at the Janesville City Hall on Tuesday, May 27. Over 20 people attended the event on only 24 hour notice. The buses left Milwaukee and Madison and arrived just in time to hear the Congressman talk about his new bill for social security reform. “We are really thankful to everyone that came out on such short notice, especially with the holiday weekend,” said Wisconsin State Director Mark Block. “We wanted to show the Congressman our support for this great bill that he is proposing, and I think he got the message when 25 people with AFP stickers walked into his event.”

  • The bill would address four major topics; Health Care, Medicare, Social Security, and Tax Reform. It would provide a refundable tax credit for individuals and families to purchase any coverage in any state, establish transparency in health care prices, and strengthen the health care safety net by reforming the high-risk pool.
  • It would preserve the existing Medicare and Social Security program for those 55 and older, with most of the changes occurring in the year 2019. It would allow those under 55 the option of taking up to a third of their Social Security payment and investing it into a personal retirement account. This account would be managed by Social Security but is the property of the individual, and cannot be taken away by the government.
  • It would provide individuals the choice of paying taxes using the existing tax code or using a simplified code with two tax rates – 10% and 25%. It would also replace the corporate income tax with a boarder-adjustable business consumption tax of 8.5%.

“My Dad always told me two things; this country’s legacy is that we leave it better for the next generation, and if you aren’t part of the problem you are part of the solution,” said Congressman Ryan at Tuesday’s session. “We are truly thankful for all the hard work Congressman Ryan puts in defending the Wisconsin taxpayer,” said Block. “This bill is just another example of how he is on the side of working Wisconsin.”
