Changing the Nation, One State at a Time
The Illinois General Assembly has passed an unbalanced budget, showing little regard for the Illinois Constitution, which requires all budgets passed by the General Assembly to be balanced. Our legislators seem to be living in an idyllic Illinois; one with no debt, no pension bond obligations and no unpaid Medicaid bills. An Illinois where tax dollars flow freely like rivers into the coffers of state government, and where we can easily pass a spending plan of nearly $59 billion without giving a second thought to how we’ll pay for it.
Not surprisingly, the reality of our State’s situation isn’t even remotely as pleasant. The real Illinois is current in debt up to its ears and is experiencing a slowing economy, high taxes, increased government spending and the country’s highest pension debt. If this is not all bad enough, our legislators have the nerve to ignore our State’s constitution by passing a budget that is unbalanced $2.1 billion dollars. Illinois legislators do not have a revenue problem, they have a spending problem.
This weeks Capitol Podcast has it all. We cover spending, and a lot of it. We cover pork, and a lot of it. Listen to this weeks Capitol Podcast for the spring session legislative re-cap.
