As you may have read, the state Department of Transportation (DOT) recently denied an application from business owner Bob Romano to expand his Rhode Island-based three-truck moving operation into North Stonington. Now Bob is no relation to me, Romano is like Smith in Italian. But regardless of his last name, the mere fact that the State will not allow him to bring a business here is just ridiculous.

I encourage you to contact the DOT immediately and ask that they reverse this anti-business decision.

If our state is truly “open for business” as the Governor has declared, then we should be welcoming businesses who want to relocate or expand into our state rather than denying their requests to put people back to work and provide services to our residents.

Late Thursday night, a few Senators introduced a bill that goes to vote today that will effectively force daycare providers into a union. Americans for Prosperity needs your help to call your Senator and Representative and urge them to reject HB 5312.

Here's the background. Senator Edith Prague and Representative Zek Zelaski have introduced an amendment that was killed in their own committee. HB 5312 is backdoor deal for the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and is a direct assault on female business owners (90% of daycare providers are women). This bill is an attempt to stop a lawsuit that called to question the constitutional authority of the governor to force daycare workers into a union. When the Labor Committee held it's hearing on the bill, hundreds turned out to protest and the bill died.

Americans for Prosperity Foundation – Connecticut (AFPF-CT) is releasing today its “Keeping Connecticut Competitive” booklet, which highlights the poor condition of the state's economy. The booklet finds that Connecticut has one of the highest fiscal burdens in the nation and one of the lowest records of job creation.
