Dougherty County Commission Decision Decision Further Limits Patient Choice

Dougherty County Commission Decision Decision Further Limits Patient Choice and Competition in Southwest Georgia

ALBANY, GA – Americans for Prosperity (AFP) issued the following statement today following the Dougherty County Commission’s decision on the county employee health care benefits plan.

“The Commissioners missed an opportunity to bring competition to southwest Georgia today when the Dougherty County Commission voted to simply maintain the status quo,” said Jared Thomas, State Director of Americans for Prosperity’s Georgia chapter. “True choice cannot exist when there is only one hospital within a network available for health care coverage. Real choice is when patients can select a hospital that best suits their needs.”

Providing a choice in care for families is an issue that Americans for Prosperity will continue to support, and work to bring about change and choice to the Albany community and the state of Georgia.

“Choice empowers patients, increases health care quality and assists in the managing of health care costs,” said Thomas. “We regret that the Dougherty County Commission has chosen to deny those benefits to its citizens."
