Everyone knows about the classic Bill Murray movie Groundhog Day (one of our favorites), where Bill finds himself reliving the same day over and over until he gets it right. Classic!
How fitting that Senator Grassley mentioned this movie with respect to this morning's Senate debate (and eventual vote) on Tax Reconciliation (S.4297), which is merely a repeat of Wed, Nov 16th, 3:34 pm, when the Senate deabed (and later passed) S2020 Tax Relief act of 2005…
Why again? Why are they going through this again?! Well, the rules of the Senate allowed the minority to take full advantage of the minutia in the rules. Long story short, those in favor of higher taxes are forcing a Groundhog Tax Day -a day nobody in America should want to relive. If this bill isn’t passed -again - millions of Americans will feel the pinch next year when they’re doing their taxes (AMT reform and tax deductions will be lost). Ultimately, this means less money in your pocket and less economic growth as a result.
Talk about a bad movie! And expensive too! We say to those in the Senate holding up this bill, leave the quirky repetition of Groundhog Day to Bill Murray; he’s much more funny.
Watch the Senate debate and voting on this purposeless groundhogesque legislation here.
