Hello, my name's Fed

Today's headline on the front of Washington Examiner: "‘We will rebuild this great city,’ Bush vows," with the subheadline, "Feds to cover bulk of $200B tab."
 
That's $200,000,000,000.00.  Roughly.
 
But let's just keep some perspective on what it means when it says the "Feds" will pick up the tab.  That's not Tom Delay and Ted Kennedy whipping out their checkbooks to cover a couple billion each.
 
The "Feds" are the taxpayers.  You.  Me.
 
Responding to national emergencies such as Hurricane Katrina is one of those things that government is expected to do. But it is our job as taxpayers to make sure that we're getting the best bang for our buck.  
 
Otherwise, we run the risk of creating a new disaster out of the old one.
