Hundreds of Americans for Prosperity Activists to Join Boehner & Other House Leaders in Calling for Members of Congress to Sign Earmark Reform Discharge Petition

WASHINGTON – The national free-market grassroots group Americans for Prosperity will bring hundreds of grassroots activists to Capitol Hill for a Thursday news conference in support of a discharge petition that would allow an up-or-down vote in the U.S. House on stronger earmark reforms.

Americans for Prosperity Foundation this week is hosting its first-ever Defending the American Dream Summit, with more than 1,500 grassroots taxpayers from 35 different states headed to the nation’s capital to express support for federal spending restraint, low taxes and free-market solutions to the challenges facing America.

Several hundred sign- and flag-waving Summit attendees will join House Republican Leader John Boehner and other House leaders in calling on Members of Congress who have not yet signed the earmark reform discharge petition to do so.  To date, 196 Members of Congress have signed the discharge petition; 218 signatures are necessary to force a vote on the House floor.  After the news conference, AFP members will visit Members of Congress from their home states who have not yet signed the discharge petition and urge them to do so.
