In a new op-ed published in the Des Moines Register, Americans for Prosperity - Iowa State Director Mark Lucas makes the case for ending federal handouts to the ethanol industry. Mark writes:

"Since 1978 the federal government has used American tax money to prop up the ethanol industry. We were promised then that ethanol was the clean, cheap and domestic energy source of the future. Yet after 30 years and tens of billions of dollars of tax breaks, Americans still rely heavily on traditional sources of fuel and gas prices continue to skyrocket...

when government rewards certain industries with favorable treatment, unintended consequences inevitably pop up. In the case of ethanol, diverting corn from food to fuel has caused prices for everything from cereal to poultry to soft drinks to go up — hurting American families every time they go to the grocery store."
