We just love our tax dollars being spent on generating useless...er, interesting trivia. It really makes us feel good about the federal government's fiscal priorities when the Census Bureau takes time to watch us gorge on Turkey and hot dogs.

Where is it that government is truly responsive to the needs and wants of the people? Certainly not at the federal level, and very rarely at the state level. It seems the best place to find attentive, responsible politicians is in cities and counties, where there’s nowhere to hide from angry taxpayers.

Those that feed at the trough of government like to talk about how TABOR has "devestated" highways in Colorado.The latest data from the Census Bureau says that Colorado has the 5th highest per capita state and local spending on highways.Those "crumbling" highways sure cost a lot.

In a letter to the editor on Kansas.com, Kathleen Butler, Wichita, made the claim that a Taxpayer's Bill of Rights is the wrong answer. Her answer is educational and gives us a perfect example of the difference between conservatives and liberals; a different approach to societal problems like poverty and welfare programs.

...a fiscal disaster. One of the more sticky accusations lobbed against a Taxpayers Bill of Rights is that healthcare will deteriorate if the government is forced to spend within its means. Sadley, this third-rail mentality surrounding the funding of social services, in particular healthcare, strangles the lifeblood out of even the most modest of reforms.
