TOPEKA—The Kansas chapter of the free-market grassroots group Americans for Prosperity (AFP-KS) today applauded U.S. Senator Sam Brownback for signing the group’s “No Climate Tax Pledge.” By doing so, Brownback joins over 180 lawmakers on the federal, state and local levels pledging to “oppose legislation relating to climate change that includes a net increase in government revenue.”
READ MORETOPEKA – The state’s financial situation continues to deteriorate with news today that state income tax refunds are to be delayed for a second time this fiscal year. Withholding tax refunds is simply the result of irresponsible budgeting practices in this session and years prior, said Americans for Prosperity-Kansas state director Derrick Sontag.
“For years, our state budget has grown beyond its means,” he said. “Just two years ago we had nearly a billion dollars in the bank, but our spending increases to the tune of 48 percent from 2004 to 2008, left us with an ending balance of just $17,000 for the 2010 Fiscal Year."

“Today, we learned that the Governor has vetoed a measure to restrict the power of annexation of cities,” said Americans for Prosperity Kansas state director Derrick Sontag. “AFP supported this bill, as it would have given local residents more control in the annexation process by allowing them to vote to approve annexation in certain instances.

Todd Tiahrt, 5 state senators and 14 state representatives.
